In 1893, the twin brothers Francis E. and Freelan O. Stanley invented the Stanley dry plate process which revolutionized photography. They were co-designers of the Stanley Steamer?1897?and the world-record-holding steamer of 1906 (Ormond Beach, 127.66 mph). As owners of the Stanley Motor Company they directed the business until retiring in 1917.
